Amigo League History

It was the early 90s, the great Iraqi war was under way, our buddy Lance was bravely fighting for our side, Poison was ruling the airwaves with their last smash hit, "Unskinny Bop", while grunge loomed on the horizon, ready to take over rock's throne, and a group of obnoxious, drunken young men from the greater Oroville/Chico metropolitan area began a league that would rule their lives like no other....the great Amigo League!  The teams came from all over: Walla-Walla,  Honcut, Dodge City, Sac City, Houston, White Plains(!), Tijuana, Redwood City and Tampa Bay.  There were brief entries from (Chili Peppers), and San Francisco (NATAS), but only the strong were able to endure the odor of the tiny 5th Street apartment and survive multiple years of Amigo League glory.

The great Earl Weaver Baseball for the Amiga served as the league's game of choice, and two Amiga 500s were set up in that small, dingy, beer-soaked apartment to play the games with.  Sleep was sacrificed, studies were neglected, and girlfriends were ignored as the teams battled for computer baseball fame.  STATS Major League Handbooks were the reading material of choice, and Keystone the beer of choice.  Many deals were struck over a few pitchers of beer at the bar next door, Maximoes, and later Jake's.

As graduation, careers and families took center stage, the Amigo League was soon a distant memory, but today, in the age of the internet, the Amigo League is born to live again!  Let's all hope this new incarnation can survive at least 1 year!

Long live the Amigo League!!
